What to expect before, during and after your session

Your session will last 1-2 hours at the location of your choice!  I am always out scouting for new locations and am happy to share some of my favorites or offer suggestions (please note: some locations do charge an admission fee).  Once we talk about what you would like to get out of your photos, I can help figure out the best location (a park, urban/downtown area, open field or the comfort of your own home).

What should we wear?

I like to tell my clients to pick 3 colors that you love (and look great together) and coordinate your outfits from there.  Use layers and accessories to add and coordinate and try to avoid dressing too “matchy-matchy.”  Think about where you would like to display your photos and make sure the colors/patterns will coordinate with your décor as well.  Simple (minimal pattern) and classic will stand the test of time.  For some ideas, you can check out my pintrest board: http://www.pinterest.com/ddmphotography/what-to-wear/

What do I need to do to prepare for our session?

Your job is to simply come ready to have fun! If you have young children, please make sure that your session isn’t scheduled right in the middle of nap time, and bring along some snacks in case they need to recharge.  I’ll handle the rest!

First of all, congratulations on welcoming a precious little life into this world!  I’m so honored to be a part of such a special time and am honored to capture your precious little one’s first days here!  The best newborn photos are typically taken when the baby is less than 10 days old.  Since most of the time, you may not know when your baby will actually arrive, book your session for the week following your baby’s due date and then let me know as soon as possible once they have arrived.  The earlier the better if you want to get those sweet, sleepy, newborn photos!

Some other questions you may be wondering about:

What’s a “natural light” photographer?

I am a natural light photographer, so what does that mean? You won’t see me lugging around bags of equipment or pulling out a flash. I rely on the natural light we encounter every day. Don’t be surprised if you find me looking up at the sky or have you turning from one direction to another for no apparent reason. I’m looking at the light and want to photograph you under the best conditions! If we are taking pictures in your home, I love large windows and there’s a good chance I might need to move around furniture to make sure we have the best light for photographs. I prefer to shoot in natural light as opposed to setting up equipment because I love the authentic images it produces.

What happens after the session?

After the session I will edit the best images and upload them to a private online proof gallery where you can see the images individually and as a slideshow. You can share your gallery with friends and family for 7 days (2 weeks for newborn sessions)! After your proof gallery is online, you will then decide which portrait package you would like to purchase. Just send me an email letting me know which package you will be purchasing and which images you would like to include. You will also be able to add a la carte products to your order.  Your products will be ready 2-3 weeks after your order is placed.
