Preparing for a newborn photo session can be exciting and overwhelming for parents. As a photographer, it’s essential to provide my parents with clear and concise instructions so that you know exactly what to expect during the session. Here’s a simple prep guide that I like to send out a couple days before the session to help parents:
- Relax and Trust the Process: Newborn sessions can take time and can be unpredictable. Therefore, it’s important for parents to relax and trust the process. Allow me to work my magic while you sit back, relax, and enjoy watching your newborn being captured in timeless images.
- Schedule your Session: Schedule your session as soon as possible. It’s best to schedule the session within the first two weeks of the baby’s life. Babies sleep deeply during this time, making it easier to pose them for the photos.
- Dress Your Baby: Dress your baby in loose-fitting clothes that are easy to take off. It’s best to avoid clothes that leave marks on the baby’s skin. Bring a spare set of clothes in case of accidents or spills.
- Bring Supplies: I provide everything needed for the session, including blankets, wraps, props, and hats. However, you may want to bring some extra supplies for your baby such as diapers, wipes, and a pacifier. Make sure to bring a bottle of milk or formula in case your baby gets hungry during the session.
- Prepare for the Environment: The studio will be set up to create a warm and comfortable environment for your baby. I’ll have the heat on to keep the baby warm, and there will be soothing music playing in the background. You may want to dress lightly in case the studio gets too warm.
- Be Patient: Newborn sessions can take several hours, so it’s important to be patient. Your baby’s comfort and safety are my top priority, and I will take the time needed to capture the perfect shot.
- Enjoy the Experience: Most importantly, enjoy the experience. This is a special moment in your life, and I’m honored to be a part of it. Relax and enjoy watching your little one being captured in timeless images that you’ll cherish forever.
By following these guidelines, parents can prepare themselves and their newborn for a successful photo session. It’s important to remember that every newborn is unique, and as a photographer, you need to be flexible and patient to capture the perfect shot.
